Refining Your Garden: A Tropical Gardening Symposium

Come join us for an information-packed day about gardening in the tropics. Our
keynote speaker is Holly Shimizu, Executive Director of the U.S. Botanic
Garden in Washington, D.C., and formerly host of the PBS series The Victory
Garden. Holly will discuss Tropical Garden Design. Holly has recently
completed the redesign of Mounts’ Herb Garden, and she will also present a
workshop on Creating a Tropical Herb Garden. Charles Jaros, past President
of the American Begonia Society, noted horticultural exhibitor and
international horticultural judge, will speak on The Beauty of Begonias.
Also on the agenda are workshops by tropical gardening experts: Lloyd
Singleton, Landscape Manager of the Breakers Palm Beach and Palm Beach Chapter
President of FNGLA will conduct a hands-on workshop Creating Beautiful
Containers. Workshop attendance is limited; reserve early. Steven Royer,
Mounts’ Director of Development, will give a workshop Tropical Ferns for your
Garden. Chad Husby, Collections Manager and Botanist at Montgomery
Gardens in Miami, will give a workshop on Tropical Conifers. This day of
refining your tropical gardening concludes with a conversation between our own
Allen Sistrunk, Garden Director of Mounts Botanical Garden, and Georgia
Tasker, garden writer for the Miami Herald and author of Enchanted Ground,
Gardening with Nature in the Subtropics, and co-author with Tom McCubbin of
Florida Gardeners Guide. Allen and Georgia will conduct A Conversation on
Gardening in South Florida. Exceptional plants and an assortment of related
books will be for sale.

Coolidge will conduct this workshop and take the mystery out of growing
beautiful roses in South Florida. Learn about all types of roses, how to
select the proper site for your roses, and how to properly plant, stake,
irrigate, fertilize, spray, and prune them to produce more roses than
ever. Fee includes book, " Growing Roses in South Florida".
