Come join us for an information-packed day about gardening in the tropics. Our keynote speaker is Holly Shimizu, Executive Director of the U.S. Botanic Garden in Washington, D.C., and formerly host of the PBS series The Victory Garden. Holly will discuss Tropical Garden Design. Holly has recently completed the redesign of Mounts’ Herb Garden, and she will also present a workshop on Creating a Tropical Herb Garden.
Charles Jaros, past President of the American Begonia Society, noted horticultural exhibitor and international horticultural judge, will speak on The Beauty of Begonias.
Also on the agenda are workshops by tropical gardening experts:
Lloyd Singleton, Landscape Manager of the Breakers Palm Beach and Palm Beach Chapter President of FNGLA will conduct a hands-on workshop Creating Beautiful Containers. Workshop attendance is limited; reserve early.
Steven Royer, Mounts’ Director of Development, will give a workshop Tropical Ferns for your Garden.
Chad Husby, Collections Manager and Botanist at Montgomery Gardens in Miami, will give a workshop on Tropical Conifers.
This day of refining your tropical gardening concludes with a conversation between our own Allen Sistrunk, Garden Director of Mounts Botanical Garden, and Georgia Tasker, garden writer for the Miami Herald and author of Enchanted Ground, Gardening with Nature in the Subtropics, and co-author with Tom McCubbin of Florida Gardeners Guide. Allen and Georgia will conduct A Conversation on Gardening in South Florida.
