A Profusion of Blooms

Originating as small, informal gardens around the English yeoman’s house, cottage gardens since have been adapted to many different climates. Here, tropical plants are substituted for temperate ones, but traditional elements still include an abundance of colorful flowering perennials, annuals, and vines, cascading over arbors and trellises.

Dwarf Powderpuff (Calliandra haematocephala ‘Nana’). This everblooming shrub is sun and drought tolerant and is a nectar source for moths, butterflies and hummingbirds.
