Come be inspired by our gardens and develop or enhance your sketching skills. These classes are open to all levels, will be tailored to meet your experience level, and most of all will be lots of fun!

The class will begin with a nature walk through select garden areas, led by artist/instructor Carl Stoveland. This is your opportunity to take reference photos with your phone or tablet to use in the class. Then the group will get out of the heat and into the classroom, where Carl will start with a quick demo topic then guide you through the drawing process showing how your explorations can be recorded and translated into a journal.

Class Information

This class is for adults only. Bring your pencils, pens (whatever you like to work with), sketchpad, a journal, and your favorite photographic device (i.e., cell phone or tablet).

About Carl Stoveland

Carl Stoveland is an artist and photographer living and working in Lake Worth Beach. He is a founding member of the Lake Worth Beach Urban Sketchers group and was 2020 Artist in residence at Dry Tortugas National Park, where he and another artist lived off the grid entirely creating art and photography for the entire month of September.  Two of Carl’s previous projects were the photo documentary exhibits, IAMLAKEWORTH and IAMLAKEWORTHTOO that were displayed at the Hatch in 2018 and 2019. Carl was managing partner at Gallery Meraki in Garnerville, NY from 2014 to 2016, where he exhibited his own work and taught workshops in Photography and Photoshop. His current passions are acrylic painting and Urban Sketching.

Carl grew up in NY near the Catskill Mountains and found his passion for photography and painting hiking along the many trails and streams near his home.  His Dad spent his entire career working in photo labs, and his mom is an oil painter and watercolorist. So the apple did not fall far from the tree!
