Regenerative Gardening in the Tropics

July 27, 2022 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Discover a unique way to garden in the tropics.

This four-part course is designed so you can participate in most of the classes via Zoom from wherever you happen to be this summer!

Learn the foundations of permaculture and how to design and create ecological landscapes filled with edible, medicinal, and native plants. You’ll gain skills to recognize patterns in nature, regenerate soil, and reconnect with our living world.

Permaculture is a whole systems design philosophy that works with nature to create a healthy, productive, regenerative garden.

Course Components

Introduction to Permaculture
Saturday, July 23rd – 11:00 am to 12:30 pm at Mounts Botanical Garden*
*Our first session will be live, in-person at Mounts Botanical, followed by three classes on Zoom.
Gain a strong foundation in the ethics and principles that define permaculture design followed by a walk to the newly planted sunflower garden..

The Tropical Food Forest Garden
Wednesday, July 27 – 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm on Zoom
Summer is the perfect time to begin your tropical food forest garden. Learn the basics of forest gardening, get to know essential plants of our place that make up the foundation of a tropical food forest garden, and gain skills to feed friends and family from our backyards in the tropical urban environment. You’ll learn how to create balanced, regenerative ecosystems by harnessing the energy of the elements: sunlight, wind, and water.

Regenerative Soil Building
Wednesday, August 3 – 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm on Zoom
The foundation of all life in the garden lies in the soil. Learn the basics of building soil in our place using regenerative practices like composting and growing your own fertilizer. Learn practical skills to reduce your local waste stream, clean up our waterways, provide self-renewing fertility, and create abundance.

Holistic Garden Care
Wednesday, August 10 – 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm on Zoom
In our final class you’ll learn the essentials of holistic garden care. From “pests” (like iguanas) to plant disease, how do we take a whole systems approach to work with nature rather than against it when challenges arise? Leave this class with a strong foundation in whole systems garden care that will bring peace of mind and a new outlook on growing and life in our place that will serve you for a lifetime.
